Overview

Directly supervise and coordinate the activities of one maintenance mechanic in a manufacturing facility. Lubricate machinery, change parts, or perform other routine machinery maintenance. Servicing, repairing, adjusting, and testing machines, devices, moving parts, and equipment that operate primarily on the basis of mechanical (and some electronic) principles.

Responsibilities

  • Determine schedules and sequences for work activities based on work priority, and quantity of equipment.
  • Requisition materials and supplies, such as tools, equipment, or replacement parts.
  • Examine objects, systems, or facilities and analyze information to determine needed installations, services, or repairs.
  • Reassemble machines after the completion of repair or maintenance work.
  • Start machines and observe mechanical operation to determine efficiency and to detect problems.
  • Inspect or test damaged machine parts, and mark defective areas or advise supervisors of repair needs.
  • Lubricate, apply adhesives, and other materials to machines, machine parts, and other equipment, according to procedures.
  • Install, replace, or change machine parts and attachments, according to production specifications.
  • Dismantle machines and remove parts for repair, using hand tools, chain falls, jacks, cranes, or hoists.
  • Record production, repair, and machine maintenance information.
  • Read work orders and specifications to determine machines and equipment requiring repair or maintenance.
  • Set up and operate machines, and adjust controls to regulate operations.
  • Collaborate with other workers to repair or move machines, machine parts, or equipment.
  • Keep work area clean and neat.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Apprenticeship program preferred.
  • Five to seven years of previous work-related skill, knowledge, or experience.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repairs, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of email and preventative maintenance database systems.
  • Computer skills required; Outlook email, production systems, etc.

 PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Regularly required to sit, stand, and walk. Must occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
